MathNet ∈ ℝ

  • 6th May, 2005 at 4:19 PM

I used to watch a lot of public television as a child, and one of my favourite shows was MathNet. Just today, my friend Damian noted that there was this crazy new police series involving a "mathematical genius brother".

This threw me back to my childhood past, and my faulty memory of MathNet's tagline, which was designed to echo DragNet. You see, for the longest time, I thought it was "The names are made up, but the numbers are real." Only on watching an episode recently did I realise that they had abstained from making that delicious pun. If I ever get a time-machine, that's the one thing in my childhood that I would change.

MathNet! I didn't even realize, for years, that there was a "Dragnet."

Thanks for bringing back memories of my own childhood past. :)

OMG! I loved MathNet, along with the rest of Square One. I remember being in a third-grade math class. The teacher paid me some compliment about my work, and I told her, “It's because I watch Square One!” :)

Sooner or later, you're gonna use some math.
You can count on it!
Sooner or later, you're gonna use a fraction.
You can count on it!

I always liked the first part:
The story you are about to see is a fib, but it's short.
