Metadata

I just finished tagging all 544 journal entries I've ever written. That's a lot of useless verbosity on my part.

It's sort of interesting to go back and read all of the things I wrote in the past year or so. Interesting and bizarre.

I wonder what I'll think after a decade of this?

Wow ... I couldn't go back though my past and tag it all ... not because of time, but because I generally feel embarrassed seeing what I used to be even four months ago.

Hopefully, you'll at least feel some level of progress between the future 'then' and the future 'now'.

So, uh, what’s all this metadata useful for? A neat, but not that useful, Flickr-esque most popular tags feature?

And while I’m at it, what is “podcasting”?

Personally, I would find it a lot easier to search through my posts relating to a certain topic than to pray that I remember what general date that post was made around. It's also good for people who only want to read certain topics of a person's blog.

Podcasting is ... hmm, it's a way to deliver audio content to listeners in such a way that software can automatically check for new audio files and download them automatically. I don't know if you've ever heard of RSS or news aggregration, but it's the same thing for audio files and perhaps other mediums.
