I'm sitting on a train headed for Toronto. Although I have missed the NITI group interview, and therefore have missed Weaver's wings, I am still pleased to be helping out with the co-op interviews. I have a bunch of résumés stored on my laptop, and I'm reviewing them as I'm heading down.

It was good that I saved them on my hard disk last night, as I'm having a ludicrous time trying to ensure Internet connectivity. As I was hacking last night, the office connexion went down. Then, I awoke this morning to find that my connexion went down. Now I'm sitting on a first class train and the wireless access here is incredibly slow. Just check out these ping times:

bash-2.05b$ ping www.google.ca

Pinging www.google.akadns.net [64.233.167.104] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Reply from 64.233.167.104: bytes=32 time=1614ms TTL=239
Reply from 64.233.167.104: bytes=32 time=2242ms TTL=239
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 64.233.167.104:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 2, Lost = 2 (50% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 1614ms, Maximum = 2242ms, Average = 1928ms

There's no way I could use an interactive SSH session, and loading up LiveJournal to put this in took far too many tries. Ah well, I'll just continue hacking, and maybe I won't go into withdrawl before I come back.

You are so lucky...
Well, this is a typical ping at my university residence.

And today is a good day. Following smokeping graph, ping in bad days are about 20 seconds !!!!!

I'm so happy when I can work with only one or two seconds of ping...

Re: You are so lucky...

Ah, but I notice that you don't have 50% packet loss. SSH gets confused when that happens.

It's too bad that you missed the NITI info session; you were well missed.

David Coombs has the csc's shiny new cheque for you. It's post-dated for next Tuesday, June 15, and don't deposit it until then. It turns out that Lalit never actually deposited -any- of the cheques that came in last term, including the one for sugar's video card (!!!). Our cheques bouncing put the CSC into the red $50; I cleared this all up today with the bank, but the money isn't official until next Tuesday.

Furthermore, we still do actually owe that $13 to Feds, but I spoke with them and will give them their cheque on Tuesday as well.

As for NITI, I'm being interviewed for Death Ray (Toronto) tomorrow. Yeah, I know, it's the Toronto office... and I don't even know if I want to stay in coop for the fall term. Meh, we'll see what happens. NITI people seem really cool.

You wanna hang out during one of your breaks or something?
