Manhunt Montreal: 4 November 2006

  • 31st Oct, 2006 at 6:03 PM

Many of you thought my ideas for public gatherings were good. That's great! So I'm going to suggest that you go to this one, organized by some other fun people.

Manhunt Montreal is happening on Saturday at 17:00. I can't attend, but you can. It'll be fun, I promise.

Re: just for you
We noticed! ;)

I don't think it's possible for me to love XKCD any more than I already do.

“It is a game of skill, of athleticism and honor.”

Hahahaha..suuuure.

Sounds like a hoot, but I’m more of a Hasher ;P

In all seriousness, I’d go, but I won’t be free. However, the offer of aid still stands re: your public gatherings. Especially the Metro Party, Ice Disco, and Masquerade…

Hashing sounds like an awful lot of fun. I think the mountain would be great for something like that, as long as we didn't cause an ecological damage.

something between the 11th and 19th?
Hey Simon,

can you help? We need something a little bit "free software" oriented for the Semaine québécoise de l'informatique libre (Free Software Week) and I'm sure you can come up with a cool idea for us :)

The site is only in french for now, so let me know if you have any questions: http://sqil.info/

I'll actually be gone for that whole week. As is jbailey, whom I would normally try to volunteer for this activity.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of other people who would be willing to speak publicly about free software, but I will see what I can do.

Oh no, not a public speaker, enough of those already!

I was thinking in the spirit of your last post, with your extravagant ideas. Please, think of something ;)

Re: something between the 11th and 19th?
I have a few ideas, although you'll have to decide how politically active you want your activity to be:

Go into a store and apply anti-DRM stickers to products. Coincidentally, DRM-enforcing products are non-free.

Participate in highlighting products at online retailers as DRM-enforcing. For instance, you can add a tag to Amazon.com products, or comment on Amazon.ca products.

Have a group hacking session where you try to get people together to build a new piece of free software, using a fun high-level language. You can make it a Rapid Prototyping Contest and have people demo their creation afterwards. Prizes could be won.
