Modelling

  • 15th Apr, 2005 at 11:52 AM

After working out this morning, I started walking east along Ste-Catherine: my normal route from the gym to the office. There are a lot of people out at around 11:00 because it's about lunch time and the sky is blue and the sun is shining. So I skip along past the slow-moving pedestrians that seem to inhabit big cities.

There are a lot of department stores on Ste-Catherine. Everywhere you go there are large glass windows that face the street with the department store displays. On this corner, there are mannequins modelling skimpy underwear. On that corner, there is a pedestal on which bottles of perfume glow. In this window, the newest spring fashions strut their stuff. In that window…

In that window stands a teenaged girl wearing jeans and a turquoise top. She puts her arm on her hip, flicks her shoulder-length brown hair and strikes a pose. Her cohort stands next to the display, obviously on watch as she looks out on the street and then back in the store. Then the model breaks her pose, picks up her schoolbag and both girls giggle at their little stunt. I give them both a thumbs-up which they enthusiastically return.
