Knoppix for petrol

I woke up surprising early on Sunday morning; I spent a bit of time clearing out my mailbox and cleaning things up. Then I started packing things into my backpack, for the trip back home. As I was stuffing clothes away, Kevin walked out of his bedroom. He looked a little tired, which I expect was normal since he returned at 5:00. As for me, I had left the closing party by 23:00, so I had gotten a decent night's sleep. Not that this helped much for the other assorted sleep deprivation. We managed to consume a tub of sorbet for breakfast, since that probably wouldn't make the trip back.

dcoombs and I left the hotel at around 11:00. We stopped by a petrol station to fuel up, since the car was starting to get hungry. After I pumped and payed, we walked past a guy in a jumpsuit with a strange looking pickup truck. He had hooked up his truck to the pump and was typing on a wireless keyboard. I asked him what he was doing, and he told me that he was calibrating the pump for volume. Then he explained that the computer he was typing on would measure how much fuel was pumped and would reset the station's meter. Then he proudly went on to say that the whole thing ran on Knoppix and he seemed like a huge GNU/Linux fan. So we had to tell him that we were just leaving OLS and that we hacked on that stuff. I think we made each others' days. He was kind enough to put on his hardhat and pose for a picture. After we drove off, I noted to Dave that there must be a copy of WvStreams on every one of those computers. Isn't that neat?

We decided to go the scenic route back to Montréal, but that turned out to be a very slow idea. The trip was very nice, but somewhere along the line the 50 turned into a dirt road and we had to struggle to find the 148. We eventually found a hand-painted sign that pointed in the right direction, got back onto pavement and drove. It was about that time that I fell asleep, and when I woke up, I had a crink in my neck and we were just getting on the Island.

By this time, we were very late for an impromptu BOF that Simon Valiquette and Fernanda Weiden were holding at Café Utopik. I was sad to miss it, but getting lost was a pretty fun adventure. I hope they had a good turn out.

We were both rather hungry, so we popped into a restaurant and indulged in squixit. Except they were still serving brunch. I keep on forgetting that Montréalers wake up really late on Sunday and can eat brunch all day. After eating, we parted ways and I went back to my flat to clean up. Clean up I did, since Timin had shed everywhere.

Hmm... is there an easy way to post more than one photo from flickr onto LJ?

Sadly, no. I always do it by hand.

Does http://flickr.com/blogs.gne help at all (if this doesn't go to an intelligent page, go to flickr.com, click on Your Account on the top line, click on Your Blogs in the left column)?
