Nikhil Varma

Last Saturday, I showed up to Swati and Nikhil's housewarming party. They had recently moved into a new place, and were putting me to shame. I've been in my place for more than half a year now, and I have yet to throw one. I figure I will do this in January, which is as soon as I want to do something large like this.

I showed up at their house and people were already sitting in their living room, chatting up a storm. Basically, the entire office had been invited, and most of it had already shown up. There were little samosas on the kitchen table and Nikhil offered me one. Only, they weren't your standard samosas. They were made with white bread, not deep-fried flour.

All right, I have to tell you how absolutely brilliant this is. You see, it's actually quite time consuming to make them. But Nikhil had the most stunning plan ever. Here is what he did: First, he made a filling of potatoes and spices. Then, he got a sandwich toaster. He assembled a sandwich with the potato filling, dabbed butter all over it, and made samosa sandwiches.

I used to think that sandwich toasters were frivolous, but this has won my heart and mind.

I left early to go see Controller.Controller and Magneta Lane, but circumstances prevented this from happening. Ah well, I can always wait for them to come by again; I am a patient man.

I didn't like Controller.Controller when I saw them last year. They didn't seem very together, and their music wasn't interesting. Your mileage may vary though..

Sandwich toasters rule. I find their sandwiches better than any grilled cheese I've ever had. You can put whole wheat bread in them too.

BTW am coming to Montreal this weekend. Will send email.

Oh no! I am leaving for Toronto this weekend.

It's my sister's birthday.

Let's meet up at some other time.

P.S. I was really hoping to see Magneta Lane, who sound totally awesome on CD.

That's for next term, where I will seriously consider doing that.

I figure going to Waterloo once a term can't be too bad, right? As long as I know people there, it's still fun.
