By myself

I forgot how strange it is to live alone.

Right now, I'm sitting in front of my computer, still trying to release some software. I've finished with all the triage work and all the ugly packaging work, so all that's left to do is upload it and announce it. My computer is across from the window, so I just looked outside and noticed how gloomy it was. So I told nobody. Out loud.

Now that Timin is back in Waterloo and Konstantin has moved to a place of his own, this place is feeling positively empty. Although it's a tight squeeze if two people live here, it's a little large for one.

I'm already whistful for the details of life, like saying "good morning" in the mornings and "bonsoir" when I come home from work. My fridge will no longer be stocked with beer. And I no longer find huge clumps of cat hair everywhere. Oh wait, that last point is false.

So I have to remind myself of the all the little joys in living alone. Like being able to sing out loud, even though my voice is no longer in tune. Or not dressing decently before leaving my room. Or leaving the bathroom door open when I shower, so that clouds of billowing steam warm the apartment. Or making and eating something greedily without needing to share.

I'm trying to get used to living alone too. Regarding not dressing decently: for me, wearing a comfy Ikea polar fleece blanket as an impromptu dress is one plus.

Today was a wonderfully warm day, so I didn't think very much about getting out of bed.

But I'm been pondering that a smoking jacket might be nice to have for cold winter mornings. Plus, it would be fun to wear.

Maybe it's time for a kitty of your own? It wouldn't stock the fridge, but it would be a friendly face and make your house feel more like a home. :)

Or maybe I'm just projecting my kittenneed on you!

Oh goodness no! I couldn't take responsibility for a cat with the amount of travel that I do. That would be quite unfair.

Don't forget using all the hot water without worrying that there won't be any left for the next person:)

Man, I used to do this all the time when I had a bathtub.

I pretty much get to live alone the next weeks or months too. I have more upkeep responsibilities than you though... a big house and yard. Fortunately I telecommute!
