Keeping up appearances

  • 24th Apr, 2006 at 9:01 AM

I woke up this morning, rolled out of bed, and padded off to my morning toilet.

I had a shower and brushed my teeth. Shaving? Do I have to shave if I work from home?

I suppose I do. One has to be civilized.

Why not grow a beard and call it an "experiment". Have you had one before? One can not shave *and* be civilized if they are growing a beard.

I fail at growing beards. Maybe it will work out when I get older, but for now, there's not enough density.

You should go for alternate evil-universe civilized. Grow a goatee.

Then toss someone in the pain chamber.

Then I'd also have to become Evil as well. I'll let my evil twin do that.

When I was working from home I found that keeping a normal workday routine - including getting up, showering, getting dressed, taking regular lunch break, definate ending time - helped me stay focused on my job. Otherwise it begins to mesh into fun time and it gets to be a stressful mess because I'm always thinking about work.

Then again, this might just be me, I know some people who constantly mesh personal time and work at home time and seem fine.

Well, I can't stop thinking about work all the time anyway, so that's not a problem. :) I'm a designer, so my brain mulls over work as a background task.

I guess that depends on what you classify as work. For me, my fun time is work and my job is work. It all goes towards my life's work. So I don't make much of a separation between my co-workers and my personal life because they're just aspects of the same thing.

Does that make any sense?

I'm always conflicted between my hate of shaving and my hate of facial hair, so it's not always an easy decision.

HOWEVER, I'd sysadmin everyday in my pajamas if I could. Mostly I just need to buy more sets of pajamas.

You need to buy more pyjamas. And have pyjama parties at work. We've done that a couple of times at my old job.

I highly recommend it.
