Tuesday dinner

  • 8th Jun, 2006 at 2:12 PM

I met with love2heart on Tuesday. She showed up at my door, since I was working from home, and we spent a while chatting as dinner cooked in the oven. It's quite warm in Montréal right now, so turning on the oven will soon be quite impractical. I really should get a smoker out on the balcony soon, so that I can cook outside. I wonder if I can operate the wok over hot coals?

We had a simple salad, some roasted chicken, and a raspberry fool. I really don't see a wide cross-section of my friends any more, and I do miss having people over for dinner. I'll have to correct this soon. I really do.

Are smoker's on balconies legal there? Fire code prohibits them here.

I use my toaster oven and slow cooker a lot when it's hot.

Lots of people have barbeques on their metal balconies. So a smoker should be in the same category of safety, I should think.

Yeah, but . . .
The barbeques on the balconies, kinda illegal. It's just that everyone else does it so why not ? *thoughts of the BBW owners* and there are so many of them out there, they can't all get tickets !! *thoughts of the law*

If you want to flaunt your anarchist side, go for it. Do like everyone else ? Go right ahead ? Now, here's where I start sounding like a mother. If everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you follow ? :-)

PS let me know where one gets a small smoker, or hibatchi in this city PLEASE !!

Re: Yeah, but . . .
I think you can get a reasonable cast-iron hibatchi at Canadian Tire.

It would be nice to meet you and break bread.

Perhaps when we're in the same city together?

I think I might be about due for having dinner and a visit with you. Your place or mine, whenever you have a spare weekend evening.

That would be splendid! Your company is always welcome.

My next free weekend is the one starting the 15th of July. (!!!!)

I hope you're also available then.

I think I should book you now, or I might have to wait until October or something :)

you can definately operate a wok over coals, that's how they did it in the old days! well, over some kind of heat source, like wood.

:D

Yeah, I just have to learn how to do it right. And try to set it up so that the wok doesn't tilt over.

Tricky tricky!

I'm unsure if cigarette smoke would be as nice as hickory or maple. :)

I'm willing to dress up like an old woman and chain smoke on your balcony if it gives me a chance to hang with you!
