Cinéma du Parc

Cinéma du Parc

I don't remember when I first went there. Was it Julie who showed me where it was? Or did I stumble upon it when I lived in that ratty, old apartment on Milton and St-Urbain? No matter. Cinéma du Parc has always been a part of Montréal for me.

So when I heard that it was closing down, it was pretty sad news. Sure, there were other theatres popping up about town. But none of them as stylish or as risky as du Parc. Things have been going steadily downhill for this little independent theatre, ever since they lost their head programmers, but there's a bit of nostalgia for the place.

I met wlach outside and we stood in queue for a while. Eraserhead, the last film they were showing, had been sold out. So we settled instead for Down in the Valley. It's a great film. You should see it.

But you'll have to find another cinema.

I'm watching Eraserhead this evening, funny that.
Down in the Valley was good, eh? I've been tempted to see it but I was worried it would have been for all the wrong reasons.

That's surprising and sad. I really like Cinema du Parc.

Oh! I thought it was open until Aug 30, not Aug 3! :(
Alas.

I was watching The Corporation that night. I didn't see you in the queue for Parc.

It's a shame - it's been a cultural touchstone of my Montreal experience, as well, and I'm sad to see it go. I don't know of any Anglo rep cinema to take its place.

Neither do I. Dollar Cinema just isn't the same.

Maybe ExCentris will start showing more English films.

That makes me really, really sad. It's such a great theatre, much better than the Bloor Cinema in terms of the type of films and documentaries it played. Also played foreign films much sooner. :(

Same here. But I suppose that all things must pass.
