Ubuntu 6.10, Edgy Eft as we call it, is releasing this week. Which means that we'd better have a release party. After all, there's a whole community of Ubuntu users right here in Montréal.

On the schedule is CD-burning, talking about Ubuntu and Free Software, and possibly a presentation if I can sucker someone into doing it. But I'm more than happy to show Edgy running off of my laptop and to answer any questions.

So join us at Hurley's Irish Pub on Saturday, 28 October 2006 at 12:00 noon. We'll be in the Alley, which is the room right beside the staircases. And let's toast the community for another great release!

Details:

Why?
To drink to another successful release.
When?
Saturday, 28 October 2006 from 12:00 noon to 16:00.
Where?
Hurley's Irish Pub. 1225, rue Crescent, Montréal, QC.

See you there! At your option, RSVP.

I thought Ubuntu was on a 6 month release cycle? I just downloaded 6.06. Just curious.

This release was just over 4 months because they took some extra time with the last release to make it just right.

Yeah, we delayed Dapper by two months, so Edgy got shortened by two. To get us back on track.

That's why things have been so terribly hectic.

I tried to schedule it before any Halloween parties.

Ostensibly, because I want everyone to attend without conflict. But actually because I have a party to attend myself.

One of these days, I'll make a trip to Montreal to attend a party.

... but not this term. The commute from Waterloo is more reasonable than Mountain View ;-)

Really? There are direct flights from SFO to YUL. None to YKF.

True. But the cost of a train ticket from Waterloo is far cheaper than a plane ticket from San Francisco :-P

Oh, that's what you mean.

I'll look forward to a visit.

Edgy eft
The current edgy kernel breaks my r8169 nic, and ndiswrapper based wifi (something acpi bug i think), so i don't have any network with the current state. Based on this I _really_ hope that this Ubuntu release wont be the Edgy "f*ck it doesn't work" Eft release. :)
