Trip to Hong Kong, Day 4

  • 30th Dec, 2004 at 8:02 PM

Today was another shopping day. It was spent walking around the various shopping districts that contained export-grade clothing. I was able to procure one shirt that wasn't offensive, but my sister found many things that she liked.

Canon PowerShot A95

We also bought a digital camera today, a Canon PowerShot A95. I was very pleased using Julie's PowerShot A75, so this one was an easy investment. Compact Flash here in Hong Kong is ludricrously cheap, so we got a bit of that as well. Now I'm going to take pictures aggressively, to make sure that the camera will break, if it would tend to, before we leave for Canada.

For dinner, we went out with Dad's old boss at a restaurant whose name escapes me now. After dinner, we chatted with him over tea, and then collapsed back home.

Now I'm at Uncle Luk's office, using his wonderful Internet connexion. For some odd reason, interactive use of my Toronto server is incredibly slow, so I haven't been able to check my e-mail. But I'm thankful for this small outreach to the outside world.

I don't think I'll be bringing it to Montréal. Sorry.

Internet in Asia ROCKS
Consumer Internet connections in Asia beat the hell out of anything you can get in North America. Back when I lived in HK, it was about HK$200/mo (= US$25) for a 3mbit/512kbit line. I pay US$50/mo now for 1.5mbit/384kbit. What the hell is that? :/

Re: Internet in Asia ROCKS
Many commodities are very cheap here. But many people that I'm visiting don't seem to have Internet connexions at home. Right now, I'm sitting at an aunt's place using theirs.
