Scales for measuring herbs

Yup, I'm sick. I spent most of today sleeping, in an attempt to get better. To pass the time, I spent the morning taking pictures of interesting advertisements in Next Magazine, which doesn't seem to have a Canadian analogue.

This periodical is targetted at both men and women; and comes in two parts. One book describes news and current events. The one I have in front of me now talks about the tsunami disaster in Asia. This is much like Macleans back home, except it has more assorted content. Like recommendations on what kind of Chinese sausage to buy, Consumers' Report-style reviews of LCD televisions, and even a two-page spread of a bikini-clad woman. The second book focuses on popular culture, and typically has a skantily-clad woman on the front cover. Within, there's the standard gossip about who's dating whom. But also included are beauty tips, fashion tips, recipes, men's and women's gift ideas, restaurant reviews, movie listings, and recipes. Next Magazine seems to be a hodge-podge of different articles, like a department store of magazine articles.

Later in the day, I went to see the doctor. It's rather odd to see people use traditional Chinese herbalists in preference to Western medicine. I drank a lot of Chinese medicine as a child, and I'm fairly certain that it isn't useless, but to see such widescale practice is quite amazing.
