Alfred Aho

  • 16th Jan, 2004 at 8:15 PM

Alfred Aho, the "A" in awk, came to speak at Waterloo today. He talked about compilers and the work he was doing.

His group at Colorado University has been doing work on quantum compilers. But he mostly talked about how horrible software is. Which is fine, I guess, since we all know that software is horrible.

I think his talk was interesting, but nothing shattering. What did shatter me was that we didn't have a copy of the Dragon book, so he didn't have anything to sign. Grumble grumble. Why doesn't the CSC have an executive already? At least then, we could have bought a copy.
