Sometimes I actually miss Waterloo.

Like this morning for instance. I was a bit peckish, so I thought I'd get myself some breakfast. But the fridge here is full of condiments, so it wasn't very easy to prepare a meal. And there were no clean pots.

Luckily, Onkar Foods (500 Glen Forest Blvd. Waterloo, ON 519-746-3659) is right around the corner. In fact, it's more convenient than the convenience store with which it shares the strip mall. Onkar is my second favourite grocery store in Waterloo. (The first is not actually in Waterloo, and is called Vincenzo's (740 Belmont Ave. W., Kitchener, ON 519-741-1437).

Onkar is an East Indian grocery store with all the staples for cooking Indian food. Rice, naan, fresh produce, fresh spices, Indian snack food, Indian desserts, condiments, sauces, oils, and even new Bolliwood releases! But the absolute best thing about Onkar is that they sell frozen Indian dinners. If I were to pick any cuisine in the entire world to freeze, it would be North Indian food. I mean, much of this food simmers in a subtle sauce for hours so that it softens and intermingles. And the freezer doesn't do anything to the flavour or texture. It's a five minute microwave to bliss.

I've saved myself from having to eat instant noodles by pulling out an Indian frozen dinner and popping some rice in the rice cooker. You should try it too.
