The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

  • 4th Feb, 2005 at 1:15 PM

On Tuesday, a whole bunch of people went to see a film at the ugly megaplex cinema that replaced the Forum. It was a frankenstein of glass and steel; lights and sound; pimply kids slaves to a corporate world. But we were here to see something different.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is hilarious. I felt a little sad that few people noticed the visual gags, or the silent homages, or the horribly dry humour. More dry than waving a bottle of vermouth over a martini. But it is very good, and I implore you to see it.

It has restored my faith in modern film.

I loved that movie for the acoustic Portuguese David Bowie songs alone. :)

I have to admit that I'm a boor, and have never heard a David Bowie song in my life.

But this movie makes me want to listen to the real deal. And then watch it again.

The Granddaddy of Glam?? Not a part of your life!?

You must at least pick up his 2-disk greatest hit collection that spans 30 years of his work. In fact, I'm tempted to send you a copy of mine. Send me your address in email, if you'd like. :)

Wow. That's incredibly generous of you.

I know you've been hanging out with privacy people for far too long, so I was tempted to send you an encrypted e-mail with my address on it.

But then I realised that I already loved Big Brother.

I rather like the AMC, in comparison to standard theatres. (Not compared to the original Forum, of course, but that's boat has sailed.)

This movie was probably the worst movie I have seen in the last year. That is bad since it really had good ingredients to make it really funny.

Flop, not top.
